New Blog

After spending some time thinking about if I wanted to carry on with my blog, I decided in the end that it would be a good idea to integrate it into my website, and change my approcah to it a bit; instead of simply posting about work I had completed, or new patterns which were available, I wanted to start to write more about ideas, techniques and materials. I think it'll manifest itself more as a series of articles than a blog as such, but hopefully these may be of use or interest to some, and besides, I always like an excuse to waffle on about art and craft materials and the like!

I will leave this blog in place for a little longer I think, to see how things evolve, then eventually may retire it completely. I don't like to use the words 'delete it' as I'm quite fond of the old thing, so we'll see what happens. I do like to approach everything as an experiment.

So my new blog, albeit with only two posts at the moment, can be found by clicking on the 'blog' button over at my website, :)

Hello! I'm taking a break from blogging for now as I am working on other things, but you can find me over at Facebook or Instagram if you would like to see what I'm working on at the moment :)

Wildflower PDF Pattern

I finished putting together a new embroidery pattern this week, a nice colourful wildflowery one :) It seems quite appropriate for this time of year what with everything starting to grow and come into leaf.

If you'd like to stitch your own wildflower embroidery, the pattern is available here

Felt Pens

I ordered a set of felt pens last week, I had an Amazon voucher sitting waiting to be spent (hard to believe I know, but I couldn't choose what to use it for!) so thought these would be a good use for it; something fun but also handy for work. I've had my eye on these for ages, but decided they were a bit spendy for me really, as I wasn't planning to use them for work to be displayed or anything, just for sketching and planning embroideries, so I had a good browse and in the end picked out these. I wasn't expecting much but they're actually really good; nice colours and lovely juicy pens which cover the paper well.

I've been having fun planning some new patterns with them, they work really well for making bold, simplified shapes to then translate into embroidery patterns.

More Wildflowers, and Pretty Pippa

I finished a couple of embroideries in the last couple of weeks, another wildflowery one and also a portrait of a lovely dog named Pippa, an Italian greyhound belonging to iheartwhippets

I find wildflowers really exciting to work with as they come in so many different shapes and colours. I'm planning to put together a pattern involving them soon.

I sent this one off on its way to a new home a couple of days ago. It's always enjoyable to choose some different threads and stickers and things for packaging.

And here's the embroidery of pretty Pippa :) This will be a donation to the iheartwhippets spring charity auction. There are always lots of lovely and very tempting donations, so do pop over and have a look if you'd like to :)

Free Embroidery Pattern: Mini Mandalas

Time for another free embroidery pattern, some little mandalas this time :) These were intended for 3" hoops as little decorations, but could be resized to be stitched larger or smaller. Simply click on the image to make it bigger, then save it or paste it into a photo editing programme.

They'd be nice to stitch in lots of different colours, or perhaps in shades of the same colour for something a bit more subtle. Add French knots or even beads to decorate them even more.

If you do decide to stitch them I'd love to see photographs! You can tag them on Instagram as #chloeredferntextileartist or #chloeredfernpattern or send me a message with them in, if you'd like to :)

Please note that this pattern is intended for non commercial use only. It can be used as many times as you like to stitch something for yourself or for a gift but please don't use it on things you plan to sell. Thank you :)

Song Thrush Embroidery and PDF Pattern

Over the last couple of weeks I've been working on an embroidery and accompanying PDF pattern of a song thrush, based on a quick sketch of a speckly bird I made a little while ago. I incorporated a couple of new stitches into this one too for the leafy stems; a bit of split stitch and detached chain stitch :)

The original embroidery is available here, and if you would like to stitch your own, a PDF pattern download is available here :)

I've put together a little PDF stitch guide to go with my patterns now too, so if you purchase a pattern from my shop it will come with a separate PDF guide. If you've purchased a pattern from me in the past and would like a copy of said guide, please do feel free to drop me a message and I'll get one sent over to you :)

In other news, I was featured in a Backside of the Hoop interview on the Random Acts of Amy blog last week, I'm really excited about this as I've been enjoying Amy's blog for some time now, so it's lovely to have my work shown on it :) Being featured on a couple of blogs lately has gotten me thinking about my Etsy shop name, which is still Slightly Triangle. I was planning to rename it Chloe Redfern, but this is taken, so I need to come up with a new shop name which fits in with my blog/ Facebook/ web address etc.. I do still like Slightly Triangle, but it doesn't make a lot of sense now, so I need to get my thinking cap on, hm...
